- Nutrition and Dietetics Technologist III/Nursing Officers – JG ‘H/K’ (12 Posts)

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Implementing nutrition programs;
Providing nutrition services in health care facilities;
Conducting nutrition assessments;
Collecting and compiling nutrition data;
Providing nutrition health education and demonstrations;
Counseling of patients with specific nutritional needs;
Monitoring preparation of therapeutic feeding programs;
Promoting maternal, infant and young children feeding programs;
Providing micronutrient supplementation.
(b) Competencies:
Be a Kenyan citizen;

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Mobilize, sensitize and advise the community on matters related to public health at household level;
Refer health cases to health facilities;
Inspect homesteads, markets, commercial premises, trading centers to ensure cleanliness and sanitary requirements are maintained;
Assess of health needs in the community;
Spearhead the CLTS process aimed to deliver village open defecation free;
Initiate local community mobilization processes and promote / oversee the formation of user groups for programme implementation;
Identify public health issues at household level;
Organize health days to advice communities on common public health issues;
Defaulter tracing and reporting of Tuberculosis and other immunizable diseases;
Implement vector, vermin and rodent control measures;
Issuing of intimation and statutory notices.

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
In liaison with the Public health officers and/or Technician, the officer’s duties will include:-
Mobilize and create awareness on health issues in the communities;
Identify health hazards, and advise the communities accordingly;
Ensure proper waste management in respective communities;
Enhance best health and nutritional practices at the household levels;
Identify contravention of public health laws, policies and regulations and report to relevant authorities for appropriate action;
Participate in all community health integrated programs as assigned

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the medical superintendent in charge, the specialist’s duties will include:-
Head the unit and discharge both clinical and administrative duties;
Provide guidance in their departments as consultants in their respective areas;
Train students attached to the department;
Perform general surgical procedures as needed to preserve patients health safely;
Analyze records, reports, test results, or examination information to diagnose medical condition of patients;
Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients;
Monitor patients’ conditions and progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary;
Refer patients to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary;

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the medical superintendent in charge, the specialist’s duties will include:-
Head of the unit;
Treat patients with skeletal injuries and diseases;
Perform orthopedic surgeries as per established guidelines;
Utilize medical equipment and tools effectively to avoid any accident;
Work with nurse physicians and other hospital departments to ensure excellent patient care services;
Recommend proper diagnostic tests to identify patients’ illness;
Analyze patients’ symptoms and develop treatment plans;
Monitor and record patients’ progress according to documentation guidelines;
Educate patients about treatment procedures;
Maintain up to date records of patients’ services and treatment procedures;
Communicate with patients to obtain their medical history;

Reporting to the Nursing Officer in-Charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
Responsible for the day to day nursing services in the county and sub county health
facilities;
Assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions and evaluating patients’
outcomes;
Diagnosing common health conditions;
Providing appropriate healthcare services including Integrated Management of
Childhood,immunization;
Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT);
Providing ante-natal care and delivery, administration of medication, health
education and counseling;

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Laboratory Technologist in-Charge/ Facility- In – charge, the officer’s
duties will include:-
Prepare cultures of tissue samples;
Provide laboratory diagnostic services to ensure there is provision of quality health
services in the County and sub-County health facilities;
Establish and monitor programs that ensure data accuracy;
Microscopically examine slides of bodily fluids;
Cross-match blood for transfusions;
Chemically analyze blood or urine for toxic components;
Analyze lab reports for accuracy;
Operate and calibrate equipment;
Deliver test results to physicians, researchers or patients;
Collect and study blood samples to determine morphology.

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Radiologist/ facility- in –charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
Ensure Radiation Protection Rules, policies, standards and procedures are adhered
to;
Undertake Radiographic and Imaging examinations as required;
Participate in continuous medical education activities in the hospital on health
facilitation;
Perform routine daily inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures
and report any deficiencies or malfunctions;
Keep up-to-date with current techniques and developments in Radiographic and
imaging procedures and endeavor to achieve a high standard of image quality;
Supervise and train assistant staff and student radiographers;
Ensure effective and economic use of resources and report all occurrences of defects
which may affect health and safety;

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the County Pharmacist/ Facility In-charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
Ensure that there is an efficient supply of essential commodities and rational use of
medicines in the county and Sub-county Health facilities;
Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is
complete and accurate;
Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs;
Answer telephones, responding to questions or requests;
Fill bottles with prescribed medications type and affix labels;
Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating items or referring them to
the pharmacist for medication information.
(b) Competencies:

Be a holder of a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized training

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Facility In charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
Be expected to initiate appropriate physiotherapy intervention programs for
patients,
clients suffering from immobility and other disabilities in the hospital & in the
community.
Work with some patients and their families/caretakers over a period of weeks or
months to identify and treat their physical problem;
Develop and review treatment programs, along with patients themselves that
encourage exercise and movement by the use of a range of techniques;
Assist Patients with joint and spinal problems, including following surgery;
Help patients’ rehabilitation following accidents, injury and strokes;
Assist in the supervision and education of student and junior physiotherapists and
physiotherapy support workers;
Write patient case notes and reports and collect statistics;
Educate patients and their caregivers about how to prevent and/or improve
conditions;
Keep up to date with new techniques and technologies available for treating

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Facility In charge, the officer’s duties will be include:-
Initiate appropriate therapy intervention programs for patients & clients with
disabilities
in the Hospital and in the community;
Advise on specialist equipment to assist with daily activities;
Develop a rehabilitation programme to help rebuild lost skills and restore lost
confidence;
Advise on home and workplace environmental alterations, such as adjustments for
wheelchair access;
Teach anxiety management techniques and assist people to return to work;
Coach people with learning difficulties or poor social skills, e.g. in handling money
and
social interaction;
Mentoring people on how to control their own behavior;
Liaising with other professionals, such as doctors, physiotherapists, social workers,
equipment suppliers and architects, as well as patients’ families, caregivers and
employers;
writing reports and attending multi-disciplinary case meetings to plan and
review ongoing treatment;
Organize support and rehabilitation groups for caregivers and clients;
Train students and supervise the work of occupational therapy assistants;
Manage caseload, prioritize needs, and complete administrative tasks such as

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Facility In charge, the officer’s duties will include-;
Exhibition and give lectures to communities and schools;
Collect data for fluoride testing in water samples;
Analyze and interpret results and advising the relevant authorities accordingly;
Other duties include diagnosis and treatment of common dental conditions;
Do temporary and permanent dental restorations;
Reducing simple fractures of jaws, extractions

16: Dental Technologist III – JG ‘H’ (2 Posts) Ref: KSM/CPSB/2015/067
(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Dentist in-charge, the officer duties will include:-
Performing dental prosthesis;
Adjust dental devices for people who have lost teeth or need help to correct
the appearance and performance of their teeth;
Create plastic or metal devices, such as braces to straighten teeth (Orthodontics);
Construct items which can be cemented in place (Crown and bridge work);
Produce plastic dentures or implants, some of which have metal inserts to help keep
them straight (Prosthetics);
Help to reconstruct the faces of people damaged by accident or disease (Maxillofacial
prosthetics).
(b) Competencies:
Be a Kenyan citizen;
Be a holder of Diploma in Dental Technology from Kenya Medical Training
College or any other recognized training institution;

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to Facility- In-charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
Work with the Orthopedic Surgeon and other health staff to provide caste to
patients
with bone & joint problems.;
Fit and apply pre-operative braces, crutches and other soft goods;
Help prepare and apply casts and orthopedic appliances; and removing sutures,
casts and splints;
Assist with orthopedic procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor
surgical procedures and fracture reductions;
Give patients instructions concerning cast care and the use of orthopedic appliances;
Prepare or set up traction as requested by the physician and can assess patients in
traction, detect deficiencies in the equipment and make adjustments as needed;
In addition, clean and stock the cast and soft goods room, order special supplies or
equipment, and coordinate collection of patient data;

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Facility – in – charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
Plan for medical technology capital requirements including setting priorities and
document requirements for annual technology plans;
Provide option analysis leading to a preferred solution;
Prepare comprehensive project cost estimates including direct and indirect
equipment,
construction costs and relocation costs;
Do equipment cost analysis to reflect anticipated expenditures and variances;
Determine and communicate the advantages and disadvantages of alternative
solutions
with engineers and clinicians;
Obtain terms and conditions of equipment trials from vendors;
Liaise with departments (biomedical technicians, information technology, facilities,
radiation safety, patient safety, clinical departments) and other interested parties to
determine the requirements for purchase, installation, maintenance, and training of
the
device.
(c) Competencies:

Diploma in Biomedical Engineering/ Instrumentation/ Clinical Engineering

Orthopedic
Technology;
Provide guidance in the development of procedures for the department;
Make decisions regarding work processes based on established guidelines;
Prioritize and organize work to meet changing conditions.

Reporting to Facility in-Charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with County Aids and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Coordinator
(CASCO) and other partners, design psychosocial interventions within the hospital
and community at large, focusing on the psychosocial needs of patients;
To establish counseling offices within the hospital and referral centers in the
community;
To monitor and gather relevant data related to psychosocial program
implementation for patients, process and prepare reports as required by the
department of health;
To work closely with the Community Development Motivators and CASCO in order
to roll out a comprehensive HIV/AIDS care package;
To assist individuals, groups and communities to recover from the effects of torture
and war trauma to enable them rebuild their lives and their communities;
Ensuring that all work with clients is confidential and that ethical practices are
observed at all times;
Develop the community’s awareness, understanding and engagement with the
issues relating to mental health, war trauma and torture;
Make the counseling services known and accessible to people whose psycho-social
functioning has been impaired within the hospital and community at large;
Promote self-care through support and supervision;

Reporting to the physician on duty, the officer’s duties will include:-
(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares bodies, specimens of human organs, and morgue room to assist
pathologist
Places bodies in compartment tray of refrigerator or an autopsy table, using
portable hoist and stretcher;
Lays out surgical instruments and laboratory supplies for postmortem
examinations;
Washes tables, storage trays, and instruments, sharpens knives, and replaces
soiled linens;
Records identifying information for morgue files;
Releases body to authorized person;
Closes postmortem incisions, using surgical needle and cord;
Should fill a cranium with plaster;
Should prepare preserving solutions according to formula;
Should prepare specimens and stain slides;
Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor.
(b) Competencies:
Must be a Kenyan citizen;
Must have a minimum qualification of K.C.SE. or K.C.P.E or equivalent;
Certificate in Embalming from a recognized institution, or experience in a
hospital mortuary will be an added advantage;

Reporting to Facility in-Charge, the officer’s duties will include:-
(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide and direct, fast efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured
utilizing all basic and advanced abilities and techniques;
Understand and anticipate potentially life-threatening squeal of cardiac and noncardiac
emergency therapy where essential for the preservation of life;
Deal with Medical and emotional needs of any victim of acute illness or injury
with the goal of reducing mortality and morbidity;
Responsible for managing and directing all first responders at the scene of a
medical emergency;
Responsible for quality patient –care;
Provide organized triage reports;
Keep track of vehicle movement to ensure that there is always one on standby for
an emergency;
Create schedules and distribute work;
Back-up workers in call-off situations and promote positive customer relations;
Facilitate the transportation of the ill and injured to institutions of medical care;
Where a patient must be extricated from entrapment, assess the extent of injury
and give all possible emergency care and protection to the entrapped patient and
uses the prescribed techniques and appliances for safety removing the patient;
Maintain effective communication with Physician on duty at hospital to relate
patient condition and obtain orders of medical care;
Prepare reports of patient information and care for the use of receiving hospital
and administration, including nature or request for aid, pertinent past history,
therapy provided, diagnosis, disposition and sufficient patient information for
billing purposes;
