The Brand Kenya Board (BKB) is a State Corporation under the State Corporations Act (Cap. 446) through Legal Notice number 38 of March 2008. The Board’s Mandate is to ensure that an integrated national brand is created, harnessed and sustained.

The mandate of the Board has two critical aspects:-


National Branding: develop and implement a National Identity that will spur higher levels of pride, patriotism and social cohesion among the citizenry.


International Branding: manage Kenya’s image and reputation in order to enhance the levels of confidence in Kenya as a competitive destination for; FDI inflows, Corporate/institutional Headquarters, Tourists and Visitors, Trade and inward flow of talent.


In order to fulfil its mandate, the Board wishes to recruit a suitably qualified candidate who meets the specified job requirements as well as requirements of Chapter 6 of the Kenya Constitution 2010 for the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Job Requirements:

Purpose of the Job:

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for spearheading the attainment of the Board’s mission, strategic goals and objectives and representing management on the Board. The position oversees management of the day to day operations; spearhead resource mobilization, coordination, and partnership building as well as provide overall leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Chief Executive Officer shall report to the Board of Directors and will:


Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Board;

Provide leadership to senior management and staff to cultivate a robust team culture consistent with Brand Kenya values;

Prepare the annual budgets and establish proper internal controls;

Be responsible for the execution and communication of the Board’s strategies, decisions and policies;

Develop and recommend to the Board of Directors the institutional business plans for the Board in line with the Strategic plan;

Ensure that the Board has an effective management structure including succession plans;

Ensure that all Board papers are accurately written, are relevant and are availed to the Board of Directors in good time;

Serve as the link between the Board of Directors and the management;

Be responsible for the achievement of the Board’s mandate and objectives;

Put in place effective administrative structures, processes and systems;

Provide regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Board of Directors on key technical, financial and administrative matters;

Be responsible for stakeholder management and enhancement of the corporate image of the Board;

Develop and maintain effective strategic stakeholder engagement relationships with key stakeholders from public, private, civil society and development partners.

Ensure corporate compliance with all statutory, legal, social and regulatory requirements in the execution of BKB’s business strategies;

Oversee effective management of human resources for optimal productivity through best practices, policies and strategies that attract and retain qualified and competent staff;

Implement stringent project management processes to ensure the timely and cost effective development of key initiatives undertaken by Board.

Ensure the development of effective and innovative advocacy and lobbying to industry and Government in order to promote the interests of the Brand Kenya Board;

Any other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Board of Directors to achieve the BKB mandate.


Academic and Professional qualifications:

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/branding, Business Administration, Strategic Communications, International Relations or related field from a recognized university in Kenya;A Master’s degree in a specialized field preferably marketing from a recognized university;

Have at least ten (10) years’ working experience in relevant profession with marketing orientation with at least Seven (7) years at senior management level in a service industry;

Experience in matters relating to image and brand development will be desirable;

Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution;

Academic certificates obtained from foreign Universities and Institutions should be accredited and equated by the Commission for University Education, Kenya;

Membership of at least one reputable professional body.

An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be offered a three (3) year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance.
